A Home of Worship
The first thing that impressed me when I arrived at Central Presbyterian Church was the number of people for whom Central has always been their church home. Even though I’m not from Rockland County, and even though I’ve been the pastor for a short time, I’ve already come to feel that same strong connection.
What connects people here is not the building, although we are blessed with a historic building built with Haverstraw brick and adorned with Tiffany windows. It’s not our theology, as much as we are proud to stand in the Protestant Reformed tradition.
It has more to do with our name. Originally “Central” described the location of the church within the Village of Haverstraw. But we like to think that what’s truly central about us today is our grounding in the good news of Jesus Christ for all people. Faith, hope, and love are central here. That’s what turns this house of brick and glass into a home of worship.
